DeLee Lantz, Ph.D.
Psychologist, PSY 4953

I have been licensed in California and loving my clinical practice here since 1977. After receiving my doctorate from Harvard University in 1963, I worked first as a teacher and researcher, as well as a clinician. Former positions include the faculties of the University of California at Santa Cruz, UCLA School of Medicine and the California Institute of Integral Studies in San Francisco. I also spent a total of four years in India as a counseling psychologist, as well as doing research in villages and studying Eastern systems of understanding the mind and emotions.

It is my clinical practice, however, that I feel is my true calling, and this is where I have been happily focusing most of my attention for the last 20+ years. I enjoy seeing my clients, who range in age from late adolescence to older adulthood. I like to adapt my approach to what is best for each individual. For anxiety disorders such as panic disorder, phobias (bridge phobia, needle phobia, etc.) and general anxiety, as well as for pain, I have found that cognitive-behavioral therapy with biofeedback generally has the best results. For overcoming blocks to achieving one's goals, often a more psychodynamic approach is best to uncover fears and old, self-defeating messages. The new "positive psychology", or psychology of well-being, is very useful for those who want to develop more fully the attitudes and habits that support a happier, healthier present and future. This approach may be used productively with two or more people together. Frequently I use a combination of approaches. Integral to all my work is the relationship with the client and support of his or her strengths and inner resources.

I am especially experienced in psychotherapy for anxiety disorders, depression, pain conditions and life transitions. Often, however, clients come in simply saying "I just have some problems in living my life more fully". As a certified biofeedback therapist, I have experience especially with anxiety and phobias, pain management, stress management, and psychophysiological disorders such as migraine and tension headaches,TMJ disorder, borderline hypertension, irritable bowel syndrome, pelvic floor muscle disorders, etc. I'd be delighted to hear from you if you feel my approaches and experience would be of help to you. My articles, listed on the left, provide more specific information about some of my work.

My Fees, Insurance Plans Accepted,
and Cancellation Policy

FEES
My fee is currently $130 per 50-minute session, payable at the time of the session. If needed, for reason of limited income, we can discuss a reduced fee, if our session is before 5:00 PM.

If you will be seeking reimbursement from your insurance company, I will be glad to give you a receipt for your payment to submit to it. The receipt wil contain the diagnostic and procedure codes required by insurance companies. You will need to check with your company to see if they will reimburse you for a percentage of the fee for my services. If it is a managed care company, it may not reimburse for out-of-network providers (providers not on their panel). However, many MCCs do give some reimbursement for out-of-network providers. So be sure to check first.

FEES FOR MISSED APPOINTMENTS
There is no charge for appointments cancelled 24 hours before the time of the appointment. For cancellations after this period, or no cancellation, the full fee is charged. Exceptions to this are sudden, unexpected illness or emergency, unless this becomes frequent.

INSURANCE PLANS I AM ON
I am on the Managed Health Network (MHN) Preferred Providers Panel. This is the mental health plan that most HealthNet insurance plans use. You will need to get pre-authorization from MHN before we can meet. Ask them what your copayment will be. It varies widely from plan to plan.

Please understand that when an insurance plan is used it can determine how many sessions they will reimburse and re-authorizations are periodically required, sometimes as frequently as every five sessions. Information about you and your progress is required by managed care plans. We will discuss what this entails for your particular company.

If I am not a provider for your managed care or PPO plan, you may still be able to be reimbursed for some percentage of the fee you pay me. See under "FEES", above.

I will do my best to work with your particular situation and I'll try to make an appropriate referral if we're not able to work together. I hope we can!
